Overall I love the stock, even considering how much I had to do to get it to work. DIP makes a direct replacement thats all metal and it feels great. I also went ahead and ordered the DIP products trigger guard, as I didnt like the feeling of the plastic one boyds sends. The new lugs they send with it are great, but I still had to sand around the front most part of the trigger area for the action to fit into place and rest in the lugs properly, I could not get the action into the stock without doing so. It was way too tight straight from boyds. I also had to grind out a little more wood for the mag catch to work properly, as well as contour the plastic mag catch boyd sends for it to function properly. I did have to sand a little bit in the magazine area on the sides, it was too tight and binding the magazine. You can have them install the pad as well and I'm sure it would look great. Looks ok, but acceptable for what I need. I ordered a grind to fit pad, fitted it, and it should be much better. The recoil pad is standard, and not gonna be enough for me to shoot all day with the 30-06.
I have to have only the bend in my thumb inside the thumb hole to use it. I was very impressed taking it out of the box.įirst complaint: I have small hands and with my grip firmly in the thumb hole theres no way I can reach the trigger. The laminate is nice and finish is a matte finish, no gloss. Without a doubt the boyds stocks look great. I wanted to give an impartial review here. I just finished up mounting a boyds stock on my 30-06.
